I mentioned yesterday on an Instagram story that I am in the market for a product that will help reduce shedding and breakage. I’ve talked before about how dry my hair can get, and the below freezing temperatures haven’t been friendly. I set out with the intention to pick up the Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Mask, as it has racked up some good reviews in the natural community. Apparently, everyone got the memo because it was nowhere to be found…anywhere. In my search, I came across Garnier Whole Blends Repairing Conditioner. I was intrigued by the fact that it contained honey. According to Women’s Health, “The humectant properties of honey help regulate and retain moisture in hair. Plus, honey is said to strengthen hair follicles for healthy growth.” With that, I decided to give it a try. You can see all the products I use on wash days here. What I initially liked about this conditioner was the texture. It’s really thick and creamy which is always a good sign for my hair. The next thing was the smell…AH-Mazing! I honestly don’t think I’ve smelled a product with a more appealing scent. After rinsing this conditioner, and before applying my deep conditioner, I noticed that my hair was slightly less tangled. I, however, still shed a good bit during the detangling process. I’ll report back after my next wash on any noticeable difference.I also threw another new product into the mix last night; Creme of Nature’s Coconut Milk Curl Repair Leave-in. I used it to moisturize before sealing with oil. Again, my hair gets very tangled, so the slip of this product was really nice. I feel it made it easier to detangle my ends with my Tangle Teezer before shingling my hair with my Cantu Coconut Curling Cream. Ya’ll…shingling is the bomb! It’s been a long time since I’ve done and done it properly, and I’m so pleased with the result! If you aren’t familiar with the shingling method, see Olivia Rose’s video here. Now, I will preface this by saying that I like my hair big so I’m ok with not have super, super defined curls. See results below! Usually for the first couple days after washing my hair, I experience a lot of shrinkage (like most of us do), but my hair was as big and voluminous as third day hair on the first day! I’ll be using the same method on my next wash day to make sure it wasn’t just luck.
