Hey yall!!

A few months ago, I picked up the Juvia’s Place I am Magic Foundation on one of my many Ulta runs. I posted a video applying the foundation and sharing my initial impression, but I never followed up with final thoughts. Here we are now! Better late than never right? Let’s get into it.

Juvia’s Place I am Magic Foundation—Color Match

Ok, I don’t know if this is a pro or con, but I felt like there were at least four shades of the Juvia’s Place I am Magic Foundation that could have been my match. I’m already super indecisive when it comes to choosing a shade when there’s much fewer options, so this threw me. I ended up leaving with Ethiopia (or 400) and was initially content with my decision. However, when I was photographed in natural light I felt like it made me look a really pasty orange. Obviously, this is an easy fix in that I could go get the next shade up. So this isn’t a complete deal breaker for me. Also, of note is the fact that I purchased this foundation during the summer. Just like everyone else, my winter tone is slightly lighter.

SO, I pulled it out and used it again to formulate a well-rounded opinion of this shade and whether it would be more appropriate on my winter skin. For those of you who are new here, yes, I have enough foundation to rotate through that I wouldn’t have used this one since the summer. I know, I have a problem. Anyway, I’ve determined that Ethiopia is definitely a better match for my winter skin tone.

I am Magic Foundation—Coverage

The Juvia’s Place I am Magic foundation has AMAZING coverage! Absolutely amazing. Five stars! I definitely would not recommend it for someone who prefers a more natural makeup look and/or sheer coverage. However, if you love a full makeup look this foundation is definitely for you. Also, a little goes a very long way which I love. I use less than a dime sized amount for my entire face. I will say that I believe that my Morphe 406 Large Duo Foundation Brush is the best in terms of not wasting product. If I were using any other brush, I strongly believe I would need to use at least twice as much product.

Juvia’s Place I am Magic Foundation—Durability

Ya’ll this oily skin life is something else! Full coverage foundation can be a double-edged sword for ya girl. I love a full coverage makeup look, but the wrong foundation will melt off this skin. Again, I purchased the Juvia’s Place I am Magic foundation during the summer so when the sweat started to roll it did exactly that. It melted clean off and horribly at that! Without the profuse sweating, I did still experience some creasing in the usual problem areas (i.e., smile lines).

For the second time around during the winter months it lasted longer, but I still experienced separation (mostly in my oily t-zone) by the end of the day even after using a setting spray (usually Ben Nye Final Seal or Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray) in the mornings. Now it wasn’t the worst I’ve ever seen, but still very noticeable after an eight-hour day which doesn’t work when your days typically go longer than eight hours. I think this makeup would fare much better on dry or normal skin. I will still use this foundation, but not on days where I know I will be out and about for an extended period of time. Also, going back to the Morphe brush for a moment, I feel like applying a smaller amount with a brush that applies well (like this brush) helps with the staying power of this foundation.

In the last year I’ve really gotten into finding the best face tools. More on that soon so stay tuned! But if you’re in the market for new brushes, I talk about some I really enjoy here. Brushes are just as important as the product.

  2. Today is my second time using it, (they didn’t have my morphe shade in stock) and tbh I hate it. It’s melting after only 5hrs, which wasn’t spent doing much but going to church and riding in the car. It’s separating, creasing, and it’s just a mess. Tbh this foundation did the opposite from making me feel glamorous. 0/10 wouldn’t recommend.

    • Oh no! I’m sorry to hear this! I still use Juvia’s place but not this formulation anymore. I use their natural radiance foundation. I will say, the velvety matte foundation is thicker and more prone to creasing/melting especially if you’re oily like me. The natural radiance has been a better option for my skin. I definitely hate when this happens. I hope they restock your Morphe shade asap! 🤍
