Hey y’all!

If you follow me on social media, then you already know I attended the Charleston Fashion Week event a few weekend ago. So far I’ve talked a lot about what I wore (😂), but not the show itself…shame on me!

The Show

Charleston Fashion Week has a really cool setup in that the entire event doesn’t happen over the course of a consecutive week. Instead events are scheduled throughout the year to keep your fashion whistle wet year round. I also personally think it’s nice if you don’t have the time to commit to an entire week in Charleston (if only we were all so lucky), you can still partake of the events.

This Fashion Week event was the first I’d ever attended, and I really appreciate the fact that I was able to do so in my home state! The whole event was so chic, showcasing designs from local creators including Kate Connick and Magnefique.

The show was preceded by time to mix, mingle and grab a cocktail in the courtyard of the Memminger Auditorium where the show was held. Of course it wouldn’t be the Lexus Charleston Fashion Week without a display of the newest Lexus vehicles.

Inside the auditorium was filled with spectators, MORE Lexus vehicles, and various vendors including those that would be on display later in the evening.

The show itself was perfect! It was obvious the designers put their all into preparing for the showcase, and it literally left me wanting more. Really, when the show ended I was like, “that was it?!”. The designers brought everything from edgy sparkle to feminine lines.  See a few of my favorites below.

Designers showcased included Kate Connick Clothing, 831 MINHLE, Gomez-Gracia , Magnifique and Tygerian Lace.

The showcase wrapped in SPECTACULAR fashion with performers dancing to tracks from Beyonce’s most recent album and other bops. They had me twerking in my seat (LOL! Anybody who knows me knows my “twerk” is really all shoulder work 😂). Needless to say, we had a ton of fun and can’t wait for the next event!

The After Party

After a long day of travel, braving the Charleston heat in a full linen suit and taking in a fun filled show, we were ready to crash! During our first Charleston trip of 2019 we stay at the Cambria Charleston Riverview hotel. It was their first weekend receiving guests, and we were impressed. So when we were invited back to Charleston to attend the Fashion Week event, deciding where to stay was a no brainer. I really enjoy this hotel because it’s big on the three Fs. For the dirty minds, stop right there- the F’s stand for “Food”, “Fun” and “Fast”.

Food

I personally love the convenience of having a restaurant and/or food pantry onsite when I visit a hotel. The Cambia had both! My inner chubs was too excited to find the Ripley Bar and Grill (a full service restaurant and bar offering an exclusive menu influenced by local flavors) at check in. After long days of traipsing around the humid streets of Charleston, it was nice to be able to come back to eat dinner in our hotel. The staff was so nice and accommodating, actually taking time to chat with us and make sure we had every single thing we needed. The restaurant also offered breakfast which worked really well on the mornings those comfortable beds wouldn’t turn us loose! I swear every morning the restaurant staff saw me looking like who did it and why and they were still nice to us 😂. In addition, there was a snack pantry to satisfy those late night cravings after the restaurant had closed. What I really appreciated is that in addition to the traditional snack foods, there were also so healthier offerings. Ya girl is trying to get her life together, so keeping this weight in check is a must.

Fun

Next up is the FUN! Man there was so much fun, but I’ll start with my favorite feature– the bluetooth mirrors! I had literally never seen anything like it before staying with the Cambia. We typically travel with a bluetooth speaker, but it’s normally connected to Doug’s phone. So instead of going through the rigamaro of disconnecting his phone, connecting mine, making sure it’s charged, so on and so forth, I just hooked up to the mirror in mere seconds! For the first time in the 21st century life was able to listen to my music without fear of water damage to my phone 🙌🏾.

The hotel of course had a pool, but what really took the outdoor space to the next level was the the fire pits. Fire pits y’all! I don’t care what season it is, when that sun goes down I’m enchanted by a fire pit. Only thing I was missing was ingredients to make smores. Next time 🙂

Now I know some may not count this last thing as fun, but hey it’s all about your mindset! The hotel has a fully functional gym onsite equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, medicine balls, etc. It’s the perfect wind down spot after indulging in all the deliciousness that is Charleston. After all, health is wealth!

Fast

The brings us to the “fast”. I’m sure you’ve already gathered that this is in reference to where the hotel is located. The Cambria Hotel is in the absolute perfect location. It’s not in the center of all the busyness in downtown Charleston, but it’s literally only a 5-7 minute drive from the action. This was right up my alley because, like most women with a career, family, other responsibilities, etc etc, it takes me FOREVER to get to sleep. Add street noise to that and it’s a wrap. The Cambria is nestled away in the most peaceful corner of Charleston with a perfect view of the Ravenel Bridge. Sensational. I couldn’t have asked for a better set up in terms of location. So if you’re looking for a place to stay that actually offers a reprieve from the hustle and bustle in the evenings, then this is where you need to be.

Since we got married in Charleston almost four years ago (where does the time go?!), we had to get out to do some sightseeing as well. We made our way to the Battery where we took pictures with our wedding party on our wedding day. As we’re walking up, I tell Doug, “Bae, we need to recreate a picture here, but I’m not sure who’ll take it”. In walks an angel! This man is walking by at the exact moment we walk up, and no offence to the fellas, yall can be real questionable when it comes to picture taking. However, options were slim to none, so Doug asks and he obliges. How’d he do? (Mind you, he only took ONE picture! See! Questionable!)

We took the recreated pic right before we headed back to the Cambria for the evening. That heat whipped us!
