Hey yall!

It’s been a while, but I’m back! Sadly, my return is not on the best of terms as I have some really disheartening news to share. I recently picked up the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation at my local Sephora, and was really excited to try it. I checked it out online first, and was able to find my shade match fairly easy using the online shade finder. I strolled into Sephora, found my match and was on my way in about 5 minutes. I attended a professional conference last week, so I was amped to put it to the test as I would staring down some really long days. Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed with the result.

Shade Match

In terms of how well the foundation matched my skin, I’d rate the Lock-It Tattoo Foundation a 3.5 out of 5. Based upon the shade I use in another foundation that matches my skin well, the shade finder recommended Deep 77w as my shade. Though this shade was supposed to be warm, I don’t feel like it meshed well with my golden undertones. Once it oxidized, it actually made me look a bit pasty. When it comes to my shade choice, I usually go for foundation that matches the deeper tones of my face. My forehead it darker than my cheeks, so I tend to match my shade to my forehead. I don’t enjoy, nor do I have any use for looking pasty or ashy.

Coverage

This is a full coverage foundation that truly lives up to that expectation. I would rate the coverage 5 out of 5 as it did a great job of covering imperfections. If you’re using this foundation, you more than likely won’t need a concealer to bolster coverage.

Durability

Whew chile! This is where things went all the way left. Literally 5 minutes after I’d set my face, the foundation had already settled into my smile lines. I. DO. NOT. HAVE. TIME! This is a definite deal breaker for me. Of course I expect some settling over the course of the day, but 5 mins in? Oh no! This was the most frustrating aspect for me. For this reason, I have to rate durability 2 out of 5.

Overall, I rate this foundation a 3.5 out 5. This foundation has amazing reviews (4 out of 5 stars on Sephora.com from 13k reviews) which obviously means it works well for a number of people. Sadly, I’m just not one of those people. Of course I spent my hard earned coin on this foundation, so I’ll probably continue to use it. However, I doubt that I would purchase it again.
